New Transcription – Cecily Payne on Venita’s Dance

Thanks to Anthony Pellegrini we have another Cecil Payne transcription posted! This one is from a Kenny Dorham album, Afro Cuban, and I personally think this is some of Cecil’s best playing!

We now have over 100 transcriptions on the transcription page, so thank you so much to everyone who has submitted and continues to send them in! We have over 60,000 downloads so far, that’s a lot of JazzBariSax out there.

Head on over to the Transcriptions page to check out the new Cecil solo and the other ones there.

A mural in Brooklyn, NYC of Cecil Payne!

Brooklyn has a number of great street murals, and now for fans of the baritone saxophone there is one featuring the great bop player, Cecil Payne!

I’m not sure of the reasoning behind it or the story, but you can watch a short YouTube video below of the mural being created. The artist is Dave O’Brien, be sure to check out his website for more images of the mural!

If you are in NYC, you can see it for yourself. It’s located at 220 Kosciuszko Street.

Finally a Cecil Payne Transcription!

If you’ve thought that Cecil Payne was long overdue to be added to our Transcription repository  you will be delighted to learn that we have added a new transcription of Cecil’s solo on Cool Blues from his album Performing Charlie Parker Music.

Thanks goes to the prodigious transcriber, and wonderful baritone saxophonist in his own right, Aaron Lington.
