Kenny was Born in NYC Dec 19, 1947. he grew up in brooklyn, and began playing alto in 5th grade, and baritone in Jr High.
His first gigs were at Catskill Mountain resorts, in the mid 60’s and with “weekend” bands such as as Les & Larry Elgart.
He performed first “name” jazz gigs with Howard McGhee big band at the original Half Note. Freelance jazz and studio work in NY and briefly in LA in 1980-81.Since then he has played with; the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis band, Lee Konitz Nonet, National jazz ensemble, Juius Hemphill Sextet, Don Sebesky, Duke Pearson, Bill Holman, Toshiko Akyoshi, James Taylor ,Paul Simon, Liza Minelli, John Pizzarelli, Dave Brubeck, Ned Rothenberg, Bobby Previte, Freddie Hubbard, Buck Clayton, Manny Albam, Gil Evans Orchestra, Duke Ellington Orchestra, Rod Levitt Octet and the Westchester Jazz Orchestra.
Berger has arranged for Dizzy Gillespie’s United Nation Band, Lee Konitz Nonet, National jazz ensemble, Phil Woods, Bill Kirchner Nonet, Frankfort Radio Big Band, DSM BigBand and Westchester Jazz Orchestra.
He also Co-led quintet with trumpeter John Mc Neil which made 2 highly regarded CD’s- Hip Deep (Brownstone) and Brooklyn Ritual (Synergy Music).

He has also taught composition, arranging and jazz history at Manhattan School of Music, The New School, William Paterson U. Rutgers U., Ramapo College and New Jersey City U.
